Metaalhandel Ketting: making the most of metal.
Efficient, economical and responsible metal recycling
The metal recycling process:
Purchasing A share of our scrap metal comes from regular suppliers; another from incidental – often project-based – sources. We aim to keep expanding our circle of regular suppliers.
In the process, we keep a close eye on current developments in the metal recycling sector. This way, we can always guarantee up-to-date conditions for the items offered to us.
Intake check for purchased materials Metaalhandel Ketting follows a standard intake procedure for all its purchases. This includes basic elements like an administrative check, a visual inspection and weighing on our own weighbridge. The standard procedure also includes a check for possible radio-active scrap – using a special detection system installed on the weighbridge. In addition, we use advanced metal recycling analysis equipment to check special shipments of scrap items.
Storage After completing the intake check, we determine where to store the newly-accepted product or load. As a standard measure, we unload the purchased materials with specially-equipped mobile cranes and forklift trucks. But of course we also take the following phases of the process into account at this stage. Where required we can store the items in a spacious liquid-proof section at our site. We can even store the materials indoors, in one of three covered sheds available for this purpose.
Sorting and processing
In many cases, stored items first need to be processed and sorted into different types of material before they can be transferred to specialised companies for re-use or recycling.
Processes Metaalhandel Ketting generally completes one or more of the following operations on incoming scrap: disassembly, wrecking, shortening, reducing the item to more manageable dimensions, separation of materials, etc. We process and sort items as far as possible by mechanical means, with the aid of mobile shears and mobile cranes, which in turn may be fitted with auxiliary equipment such as shears and sorting grabs. This procedure allows us to separate approximately 95% of the incoming items into materials that can be processed and recycled.
Residual fractions that need to be removed from the cycle for good – drained motor oil, for example – are transferred to authorised processing companies together with the required documentation.
Sale We work with a specialised network of sustainable partners to sell on our sorted and processed metals. We are always interested in opportunities to add new partners to this network.
Transport The transport of scrap metals and waste to and from a location is subject to complex legislation. This activity involves a mass of – occasionally complicated – paperwork. Thanks to our many years of experience, we have all the required expertise in-house to ensure that each transport is executed and documented correctly. And of course we work exclusively with certified, professional carriers.
We’d also like to mention our extensive fleet of skip bins, with sizes ranging from 1 to 40 m³. We can set up these containers at the client’s location and regularly replace them with empty units, either according to a fixed schedule or on request.
These solutions are examples of the philosophy that drives our business: working closely together with the client, we develop an efficient, cost-efficient and responsible solution for the disposal and recycling of surplus metal items.
